The Shorts Style I Can Wear For Any Occasion
My warm-weather wardrobe isn't complete without these thigh-skimming bottoms.

Friends! What a week! I was, as the aunties like to say, ripping and running all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. In case you missed it, Marie Claire launched our Motherhood Issue, starring Gabrielle Union, Kali Uchis, and Deepika Padukone. We also partnered with Moms First to launch our first ever Power Moms List celebrating seven women who are re-shaping the culture of motherhood, then celebrated with an incredible awards ceremony and dinner. Be sure to check out our inside look at the festivities.
But enough about us. Let’s get on to the matter at hand, which as far as I see is summer dressing. It’s consistently warm here in NYC now, so I’m re-upping my closet with a key-to-me wardrobe staple: the Bermuda short. Many brands also call this style a City short—which makes perfect sense as it’s a style I return to summer after summer here in the city. They’re practical (I hate the idea of bare hamstrings on a subway seat) and easy to style (add a heel for day, sneakers or flats for commuting)—without ever going out of style. Here are four ways I like to wear them.
THE OFFICE BERMUDA SHORT
I wore an outfit almost identical to this on my very first day here at Marie Claire. I wanted to give a more polished version of my everyday personal style.
THE VACATION BERMUDA SHORT
During the summer months I rarely travel without a pair of shorts like these. It’s a perfect match for T-shirts, swimsuits, and lazy hangs on the beach.
THE BRUNCH BERMUDA SHORT
You never know where a brunch day will take you, so crafting a look that can go from 12pm to 7pm (or is that just me?) is key.
THE DATE BERMUDA SHORT
I’ll balance longer shorts with a tiny top and high heels for maximum impact.
Anatomy of an Outfit
As I mentioned at the top, this was a big week full of big fits! Between two Met Gala-related television appearances, Met Gala after parties, and Marie Claire’s Power Moms celebration, I relied on a rotation of closet faithfuls—plus a few new things sprinkled in—to get me through. Shop ‘em below!
