I’m a Certified “Shoe Girl”—These Are the Three Styles I Wear on Constant Repeat
We're going back to the basics.
Though I adore a minimalist, pared-down aesthetic, my favorite pieces to invest in are an incredible pair of shoes. I love how they can elevate a simple outfit. It's that pop of personality that gives a little peek into your inner world. Keeping your clothing subtle and letting a shoe be a little extravagant is my favorite way to dress up.
However, not all shoes in my closet are created equal. Here, I dive into what makes a perfect shoe for me, and the pairs I keep in my closet. These are the ones I would repurchase time and time again, and for good reason. Think of them as the fundamentals to invest in before you grow your collection.
Vintage (Or New) Manolos
Manolo Blahnik shoes make me feel as though I am living in a Carrie Bradshaw world—one filled with flirtation, mystery, and an ultimate sexiness that cannot be replicated. I have scoured The RealReal for hours in hopes of finding the perfect ones. I fear once you go Manolo, you really can’t go back.
A fun shoe adds so much spice to a look; it can be the look! Feathers, suede, unique shapes. You can play all you want and live out your Sex and the City fantasy.
The Perfect Flats (And Loafers)
I find that nothing quite compares to a great pair of loafers. Plus, I love a pointy flat that can give the illusion of wearing a heel. A snakeskin-print, plain black, or chocolate brown-hued loafer pairs well with anything. I also love ballet flats with a great pair of trousers, but pairing them with sheer tights and a skirt can be a great look too.
The Row, known for its exclusivity and ultra-luxe price point, has become my favorite brand to invest in for flat shoes. Its selection includes comfortable flats, loafers, and simple, classic silhouettes galore. But there are other quietly luxurious brands I love, too.
A Great, Wear-Everywhere Boot
Finding the perfect boot can be a challenge, but I would stick to three simple rules: First, go for comfort. Secondly, decide on your perfect heel height and find a pair that has it. Finally, decide your silhouette—do you prefer a square or a pointed toe?
I favor these brown, secondhand Manolos, but the key aspect to look out for when shopping is the shape. I love flat boots like these, especially if I'm trudging through the tundras of New York City weather. Plus, they sit perfectly at my mid-calf, so my skin doesn't peek out from under my skirts, and they don't look bulky under jeans.
After you've found your perfect everyday boots, a pointed-toe style is the cherry on top. Styles like this are flattering and create a longer silhouette on the bottom half of your outfit.
