We've tried every way to store shoes possible: under the bed, behind the door, even decorative crates. Those tricks don't quite cut it, though, if you have oh, roughly 10,000 pairs of shoes that spark joy (opens in new tab). If that seems hyperbolic, then clearly, you're not singer/international treasure Celine Dion.
On a recent episode of Carpool Karaoke, James Corden asked Dion about her rumored shoe obsession, wondering if she knew the true size of her collection. When she played coy, Corden pulled out the receipts. In an interview with WWD, Dion admitted to owning 10,000 pairs of shoes that she can't give away, thanks to a personal connection with each one.
“I cannot give anything away, because every piece that I buy has brought me to where I am tonight. They’re part of every step that I take, and I have an attachment to it. You can call it crazy. I keep everything, but I just keep buying a bigger space,” Dion told WWD (opens in new tab).
Dion also revealed that before upgrading to her massive shoe warehouse in Vegas, she installed a massive, digital walk-in shoe closet in her Florida home. The shoes were organized by color and selected with a series of buttons.
"They were all by colors, so I would press another button and they would turn in front of me," Dion told Corden.
Since taking on the residency at Caesar's Palace, Dion has moved her life—and her 10,000 shoes—to Vegas, buying out a large warehouse to accommodate her collection. She admits that her love of fashion has helped her cope with the loss of her husband, Rene Angelil, and that her haul has grown since.
As part of the sketch, Cordon helped Dion winnow her collection a bit by by passing out some of her lesser-used kicks to passersby with the help of her assistants. Check out Dion's reaction and her favorite songs below:
