Let There Be Bright
While copious amounts of shockingly outrageous color once served the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Grace Jones well, these days we'd recommend you consume the neon trend with a teaspoon of restraint. Take notes from the fresh-faced beauties on Jil Sander's spring runway: Makeup artist Peter Philips was brave enough to whip up a bold fuchsia lip, wise enough to keep the rest of the palette starkly nude.
Too shy for a rave-worthy face-off? Dior's new candy-colored spring collection includes crazy-cool neon nail polishes in both hot-hot pink and Day-Glo orange. Their celebrity makeup artist Ricky Wilson loves how "neon nail frenzy" is reaching a fever pitch. "I would say keep the clothing and makeup neutral, and rock your bright nails with coordinating accessories for a look that isn't over-the-top but still trend-chic," he sagely advises. What a bright idea.
