In addition to being a world-famous, uber-talented recording artist and proud husband and father, John Legend also happens to be friends (or at least very friendly) with the First Family. It's almost too much good for one person's life, but we'll give him a pass because he's generous enough to share stories about the Obamas with the rest of us.
While promoting the movie Southside With You (which he executive produced) in Los Angeles, Legend spoke to reporters about his most famous friends, the Obamas (sorry, Kimye). It was a perfect time to discuss the Obamas because Southside With You tells the story of the couple's first date.
"I've been around both of them quite a bit and I think they are just so cool," Legend told reporters during the film's press conference, according to People (opens in new tab). "We are so fortunate to have two people who are so brilliant, so authentic, so honest and full of integrity and who have a true love for each other and create this beautiful partnership together as the representative couple of America."
Legend has indeed spent time with the couple. Between his appearances at White House events and bumping into them backstage at talk shows—like that time he ran into FLOTUS at The Late Show—they're basically best friends.

According to Legend, what makes the Obamas truly "cool" is that they've managed to stay down to earth, in spite of being the most powerful of power couples.
"What's so cool about them to me is that, with all this power, with all this grandeur that surrounds the office they're still really down to earth," he explained. "They still are really in touch with the people and still so relatable and I think that comes from the fact that they know where they come from and know where they met...I think they still carry that with them everywhere they go and I think it gives them perspective. Whether they're in the White House or hanging out with their friends or wherever they are, they're authentic and that's what I think about the President and First Lady."
Thank you, John Legend, for confirming everything we already knew in our hearts about Barack and Michelle Obama.
