Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez Announce They've Broken Up
Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez really are done. The former engaged couple announced on the Today show this morning that they've ended their relationship after they attempted to fix their issues.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez really are done. The former engaged couple announced on the Today show (opens in new tab) this morning that they've ended their relationship after they attempted to fix their issues following breakup reports last month. Lopez and Rodriguez started dating in 2017; they got engaged in March 2019.
The two released a joint statement, which reads: “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
The announcement comes just days after Lopez sparked breakup rumors (opens in new tab) when she shared photos of herself on her Instagram without her engagement ring on.
When breakup reports first came out in March. the couple responded to them the morning after. “All the reports are inaccurate,” they said in a joint statement. “We are working through some things.” That work included Rodriguez flying out to Lopez, who is shooting Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic, to try to repair their relationship in person.
But Lopez had long-seeded doubts about Rodriguez and his character. Days after reports of their breakup first came out on March 12, a friend of Lopez told People (opens in new tab), “She's been contemplating breaking up with Alex for six months.”
A separate source told E! (opens in new tab) on March 12 that the singer's friends were not fans of Rodriguez, given his past cheating scandals. “Jennifer's friends for a long time had warned her that A.Rod was not a good guy and that he was using her to clean up his tarnished image after his many scandals,” the source said. “For years, Jennifer did not listen to the warnings, but now she believes them.”
