Iris Law Just Traded Ballet Flats for Fashion's Most Polarizing Sneaker
The model may have just kicked off the next revival of the trend.
In 2026, I never expected to see a Gen Z fashion girl style Isabel Marant's once-ubiquitous wedge sneakers. On August 5, Iris Law surprised me when she not only wore one of the most polarizing footwear trends from the 2010s, but also stopped mid-stroll to ditch of-the-moment Mary Janes for the hybrid pair. Talk about a bold shoe switch-up.
Paparazzi spotted the 25-year-old in New York City looking every bit an effortlessly cool local. Taking her New Yorker cosplay to the next level, Moss was dressed in all black, in a loose halter tank top and board shorts trend. The celebrity-beloved Chanel 25 bag and throwback sneakers added pops of color to her off-duty outfit.

Her high-top trainers appeared to be Isabel Marant's Bekett sneakers, which date back to 2011. You may recognize their suede Velcro straps and 2-inch-tall gum soles from the shoe racks of Katie Holmes, Anne Hathaway, Kendall Jenner, and Rihanna back in the day.
In Spider-Man shades of strawberry red, navy blue, and white, Law's sneakers—which recently sold secondhand for $320—were a stark departure from the simple Mary Jane flats she was sporting minutes earlier.
Law carried her Mary Janes in hand, while Isabel Marant's wedge sneakers stole the show.
Law is, without a doubt, more of a Mary Jane loyalist, but that's not to say she doesn't have history with wedge sneakers. "When I was thirteen I used to always wear the wedge black Supergas. I remember it vividly," the model said four years ago, when the Italian footwear brand cast her in a fall/winter campaign.
Around the same time, Isabel Marant's celebrity-beloved sneakers were everywhere, appearing in street style on models like Gisele Bündchen and immortalized in music videos like Beyoncé's "Love On Top."

Less than a year later, Beyoncé added the black wedges to her collection.
The sneakers dropped out of popularity in the latter half of the decade before the French fashion brand reissued the style as the Balskees in 2021, sparking yet another resurgence. In the last year, Chrissy Teigen, Zara Larsson, and Chase Sui Wonders have all worn the style.
As recently as 2025, Chase Sui Wonders attended a fashion show in all-black wedges.
Is the divisive look back? While Law certainly turned a head or two in NYC, it doesn't mean a full-fledged wedge sneaker fall is on the way.
