On the heels of unicorn madness, pearl hair is the latest whimsical hair color trend racking up the likes on Instagram. We thought we'd reached our tipping point, but these iridescent dye jobs are decidedly gorgeous, so we'll make an exception.

The brainchild behind the look is celebrity hairstylist Kevin Murphy, who debuted the treatment during a recent COLOR.ME collection ad campaign. (Editor's Note: The brand's Shimmer.Me.Blonde color enhancer plays a key role in maintaining the mother-of-pearl effect.)

Real talk: If you want to nail a seamless swirl of opalescent color, you're going to want to leave your mane in the hands of a pro who will bleach the hair as necessary, paint on a multitude of holographic shades, then finish with a toner.
