You Won't Believe Who Almost Played Dawson Leery In Dawson's Creek

You really won't. MIND BLOWN.

This is a serious story, I promise. I photochopped Grenier's head (badly) onto Dawson Leery's body for this, so it's definitely serious. During a press event for his new comedy Friends With Better Lives, James van der Beek, aka the real Dawson, confirmed he'd been up against Grenier for the cult show's titular role. In fact, Grenier tested for both Dawson and Pacey, and was apparently Sony's first choice for the lead part. "[Director] Kevin Williamson had to fight for me," van der Beek continued, and the world just about fell off its axis.

So would Adrian Grenier's floppy haired-take on Dawson have worked? This GIF suggest it just might have:

But my heart still says no, it wouldn't. (Though in a crazy alternate universe somewhere, Grenier did bag the role and van der Beek then played a great version of Entourage's Vincent Chase instead. Everyone who saw The Rules of Attraction knows he has it in him.)
