It’s hot outside, and sometimes it’s hard to resist the call of a perfect, icy treat with a jolt of caffeine to boot. Though financial advisors are always lecturing our generation against spending our hard-earned bucks at the coffee congolmerate, the company still pulled in a net revenue of $2.4 billion this quarter from daily addicts. These days, though we know we must cut back on shopping, somehow it can still be hard to give up the little luxuries like this one. I speak from experience — I live right above a Starbucks, and sometimes have to walk the opposite way to avoid the trap of samples and special deals. But those advisors are onto something — at approximately $3.50 a day, what seems like a small expense can add up to $1,200 a year!

Today, I came across a hilarious new book by Heather Wagner, called "Happiness on $10 a Day: 120 Activities to Make You (and Your Wallet) Happier Than Ever!" Inside, along with tips to curb expensive behavior, like, “Feeling Dramatic? Harass a Telemarketer,” and “Craving Cute Animals? Stalk a Puppy!” is this easy recipe to make your own frappuccino for one.

Heather Wagner’s Frappuccino

Ingredients:
Fresh ground coffee
1 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 c. ice

First, brew your coffee. Measure 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per 6-ounce cup in your coffee maker. Once the coffee is done brewing, place it in your refrigerator until chilled. Then, pour 12 ounces of chilled coffee in a blender, add sugar, milk, and ice, and blend until the ice is crushed and the drink looks smooth. Pour into a frosty 16-ounce glass and enjoy on the porch with your feet up.
