Everyone in my life knows that if we’re on an outing and I disappear, it’s likely because I wandered into the nearest Ulta store. I will accept no judgment on this because there is nothing like going into one of my favorite beauty retailers to swatch, sniff, and spritz to my heart’s content. Well, my local Ulta store will be seeing me sooner, rather than later, because the Let’s Haul Sale is currently underway, and I’ve been itching to get some new perfumes.
While I’m not someone who typically has a signature scent, my olfactive preferences remain fairly consistent: I either like niche, molecular, or skin scents, or the most heady, smoky, and woody concoctions known to man. I recognize this imbalance even more around the spring and summer months, when neither category necessarily feels “right” for the season. Wearing a sundress and smelling like I just chopped some firewood feels rather diametrically opposed, you know?
With that said, I will be taking full advantage of the sale, which ends on April 18 and features products up to 30 percent off, both in stores and online. Makeup, hair products, skincare, and even beauty tools will also be discounted, but as I said, my focus is solely on the smell goods. If you’re on the same boat, I’ve curated a list of perfumes I plan to check out before the promotion ends.
Said list is basically the shopping cart that I’ve been building, so do me a favor? Don’t sell them out, okay? Now that that’s out of the way, keep reading for the spring and summer fragrances that I'll be adding to my collection.
Do you remember that amber perfume oil that went viral on TikTok? If you haven’t, the product went off for its fresh, skin-like, and molecular scent, so the brand came out with an eau de parfum version. The two paired together? Immediate yes.
This is the original oil version of the fragrance above. And as many customers noticed when this product went viral, it turns out that it smells a lot more like iso e. super or ambroxan than it does actual amber. That would’ve been a problem, except those are two of my all-time favorite perfume notes. So I stock up on them like I do toilet paper. (Reserve your judgment, thanks).
Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess feels like the epitome of summer. Amber, coconut milk, and vanilla are paired with uplifting notes like juicy mandarin and Sicilian bergamot, before leaving behind the most gorgeous trail of floral notes. The verdict? Bronze Goddess is guilty of smelling so damn good.
Want a gourmand perfume that you can actually wear in the spring and summer? You may want to add Dolce & Gabbana’s Devotion to your shopping bag. Candied lemons and orange blossom add a bright citrusy burst in the opening before a more fluffy vanilla is revealed as the fragrance wears. It’s a gourmand lover’s answer to citrus scents in the summer.
MAC’s Turquatic is legendary among makeup-lovers. It’s fresh and a little oceanic, thanks to a mineral water accord, which is followed by fresh lotus leaf notes, as well as Cottonwood Accord. In short? It will smell like you’ve just put on your cleanest, freshest set of linens, all the time.
Was I the only one who needed the DKNY perfumes when I was in high school? Well, if you didn’t get one then, now’s your chance. DKNY Be Delicious Orchard St is the brand’s ode to the Lower East Side of New York City. The notes include pink lady apple, jasmine, and cedarwood, a gorgeous fruity floral if I’ve ever seen one.
My need to smell like summer fruits typically skyrockets in the late spring, and that’s exactly why Pacifica’s Passion fruit spray perfume is on this list. Notes like passionfruit, watermelon, pineapple, and even musk in one perfume bottle? Sign me up.
I am convinced that 000 is the best perfume in Le Monde Gourmand’s entire lineup, and to be honest? I don’t think I’m wrong. This fragrance is the brand’s interpretation of a crisp white t-shirt, which means it’s fresh, a little aquatic, and almost detergent-like.
