The Byoma Bio-collagen Radiance Facial Mask Is My Winter Secret to Glass Skin

It’s safe for acne-prone complexions, too.

As someone with fairly sensitive and acne-prone skin, I’ve become extremely strict about my skincare routine. Gone are the days when I’d lather anything on my face with hopes that it would finally give me the flawless glass skin of my dreams. That said, I do believe there is value in treating your skin at home in addition to treatments you get in a dermatologist’s office. One of the easiest ways to do this? Using a face mask regularly. That's where Byoma’s latest launch comes in.

Aptly called the Bio-collagen Radiance Facial Mask, this new product is the brand’s answer to the viral glass skin trend. However, it’s not just for show—the mask actively addresses skin concerns. “Clinical studies have proven that the mask provides all-day hydration with just one use,” says brand founder, Marc Elrick. “It also strengthens the skin barrier by up to 36 percent and reduces the appearance of wrinkles with regular use.” On top of these claims, the brand calls this product a liquid sheet mask because you can peel it off with ease, just like the traditional treatments you already know and love.

If that set off alarm bells in your head (same, because it sounds extremely gimmicky), you can imagine my surprise when I first used the mask and genuinely loved the results. I’ve even found a way to personalize the treatment even more and enhance the glowy skin benefits. Keep reading for the full breakdown of how I use this mask, and get your Ulta cart ready. You’re going to want to try it for yourself.

The Formula

Before I get ahead of myself, let’s understand the science behind this mask. “Bio-Collagen is the star of our newest innovation and the crux of our scientific storytelling for this product,” Elrick says. “Our skin naturally has at least 28 different types of collagen in it, and we specifically chose this Bio-Collagen because it mimics and has high similarity to Type III Collagen. This is the type of collagen that is very common in younger skin, and it’s responsible for boosting your skin’s flexibility.”

For context, Type III Collagen is the first to drop as we age. When infused into the skin, the bio-collagen in the mask creates a bouncy, hydrated effect, especially when paired with other ingredients in the product, such as Hexanediol and Capric Triglyceride, which are humectants and skin conditioners, respectively. Essentially, this mask is a one-stop shop for moisturized and radiant skin.

The Application

The mask is supposed to be mixed in the container before use, so I used my silicone applicator to mix it and applied a thin layer to my face. One of the coolest parts about this product is that it starts white and, as it works its magic, becomes clear. The visual indicator allows you to be able to easily tell when it’s time for the peel to come off, which is one of my favorite aspects of this product.

Plus, the mask itself doesn’t feel oppressively tight on my face, so I’ve been known to put it on and do a few chores, call my friends, and even hang out with my cats and husband—all without feeling like there’s something stuck to my face.

The Takeaway

In all, this mask has legitimately become a part of my new and improved skincare routine. If my skin ever feels particularly dry, I like to spray a hydrating toner before application. This essentially traps that moisture into my skin, with the mask acting as a physical barrier that prevents transepidermal water loss. Simultaneously, it infuses my skin with the mask's glowy, hydrating ingredients.

As an oily, acne-prone gal, I can confidently attest to the fact that this mask has never broken me out. Plus, the brand’s chemist confirmed that the formula is noncomedogenic, so if you’re in the same boat, you can rest assured that the mask won’t cause any flare-ups or clog your pores. For less than $20, I couldn’t recommend this mask more. It's one of the best drugstore skincare products I've tried in recent memory. If you’re looking for a shortcut to glass skin, start here.
