Laverne Cox Becomes First Transgender Emmy Nominee Ever

Woohoo!

Thursday's Emmy nominations were exciting for many reasons — women-led shows like Veep and American Horror Story: Coven got a lot of love — but they also marked an important moment in history. Laverne Cox became the first transgender person ever nominated for an Emmy, for her portrayal of Sophia on Orange Is the New Black . Congratulations, Laverne!

Cox's castmates Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Taylor Schilling, and Natasha Lyonne also received acting nominations, and the show as a whole garnered a nod for Best Comedy Series. Basically, the ladies of Litchfield are killing it.
