'Moonlight' Stars on Best Kiss Win: This Is for Those Who Feel Like the Others

Jharrel Jerome and Ashton Sanders score the Golden Popcorn at the MTV Movie Awards.

Tonight, Moonlight's Jharrel Jerome and Ashton Sanders (who played young Kevin and Chiron respectively) took home the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards. Together, they accepted the award and shared an important message: This kiss was more than just a kiss.

"I really have to start with saying, thank you to my parents. I have to. I love you all so much. I am here," Jerome said. "But on a real note. I think it is safe to say, that it is okay for us young performers, especially us minority performers to step out of the box. I think it is okay to step out of the box and do whatever it takes to tell the story and do whatever it takes to make a change. And, so, this award is, it's for that. It is for us artists who are out there who need to step out of the box to do whatever it takes to get people to wake up."

"This is award is bigger than Jharrel and I," Sanders finished. "This represents more than a kiss. This is for those who feel like the others, the misfits, this represents us, so, we love y'all and thank y'all."
