Some Genius Turned the Hollywood Sign into the Hollyweed Sign

As acts of vandalism go, this one is pretty amazing.

No, you aren't tripping. The iconic Hollywood sign in Los Angeles now reads "Hollyweed."

Some clever vandals transformed the classic Hollywood sign into a stoner's paradise sometime overnight on New Year's Day. The transformation is actually quite appropriate considering California voted in November to legalize recreational marijuana.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Security Services Division told CNBC that the pranksters used tarps to create the effect of changing the sign's 'O's to 'E's. Police are investigating the incident as an act of trespassing.

Strangely, this is not the first time that this has happened. On New Year's Day in 1976, vandals pulled the same stunt and changed Hollywood into Hollyweed after a state law passed that decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana, according to History.com.
