Here's How Many Calories You Eat on Christmas Day

Christmas Day is the day most people write off any kind of dietary limitation and they damn well go for it. With a pre-breakfast breakfast of candy canes, most families cook up a storm for the first meal of the day to tide you over until the main event: A giant freakin' dinner.

Then you've got all the booze, dessert, the snacking on a box of chocolates, before you find yourself feeling peckish again a little later on and dig into the roast leftovers for round two.

Nobody goes light on the Christmas Day eating, is the point. So how many calories are we really injecting into those poor bodies of ours on the special festive day? According to a survey of 2,000 people who celebrate Christmas, carries out by Wren Kitchens, it's almost 6,000.

Oh dear god.

In order to gather the data, they asked their respondents to list everything they usually consume on Christmas Day - including food and drink - and then sent the grand list back out to everyone to score how many portions of each they personally would have on Christmas Day. Then they added up the calories.

Here are just some of the breakdowns for how we manage to rack up so many thousands of calories:

A full english breakfast starts you off with 424 calories.

And if you like yours with champers that's another 244 calories.

Your dinner with all the fixings will rake in approximately 965 calories.

You can add on 129 calories for every glass of wine you have.

And then another 226 calories per chocolate bar... of which you probably have several.

Cheese and biscuits will contribute an extra 175 calories per portion.

And that turkey and stuffing sandwich you devour in the evening adds on another 676 calories.

So you can see how it easily adds up. But do we care? Not particularly. Cheers!
