Pregnant Trainer Targeted by Internet Bullies Responds to "Cruel Comments"

"It's hard to believe how cruel some of these comments can be...there are people out there that underestimate the female body."

A few months ago, online bullies attacked Australia fitness trainer and former Miss Universe finalist Chontel Duncan for posting an Instagram featuring two baby bellies: On the left is Chontel in her 21st week of pregnancy. On the right, the significantly shorter and more pregnant Natalie Smith:

"We worked out that we are four weeks apart, so our little ones will be the same age, same grade at school and potential best buds hehehehe..... Nat's due start of March, and I'm due end of March. Each women carries different, and this most certainly doesn't mean one is doing something wrong or not healthy, etc. We both have healthy growing babies, and we both have had incredible pregnancies so far, feeling amazing and full of energy.

While it's true that every pregnant woman carries differently, many of Chontel's more than 358,000 Instagram followers freaked out over the photo, accusing her of not looking pregnant and showing off.

"Jesus, I'm not even pregnant and have more of a belly than the one on the left hahaha... 😢," one wrote. "I thought [Chontel] was [Natalie's] trainer," another comment read.

Despite the backlash, Chontel recently posted another baby-belly comparison, this time posing next to a pregnant women with a smaller bump than hers, seemingly for scale. Chontel is 12 days away from her due date in this photo, while the woman on the left has 12 more weeks to go:

But the expectant trainer still can't get a break. "Left looks normal," read one comment. Another: "I looked like that at nine weeks." Sick of fielding unsolicited critiques about her body, Chontel responded to her haters in this post:

It's hard to believe how cruel some of these comments can be... I may not read every comment, every article, every message, but for the ones I have briefly read, it just blows my mind that someone whom I do not know, whom I've never had any form of connection with, could have so much anger and hate towards me as I carry my first child. I've spent many years looking after my health and the health of others to the best of my ability, and now I am continuing to focus on my health — but more importantly, the health of my unborn child under the strict instructions of the best health professionals — and openly share my journey. What's sad is how sheltered so many are on what is and what isn't healthy... Regardless, I am so confident in the team that support my journey and so in tune with my body that it does not discourage me and make me feel the need to sit down, stuff a burger down my throat, become bed ridden, and live in a bubble. What they are so shocked about is just a fraction of what is so normal to me. It's safe to say there are people out there that underestimate the female body.

"What's sad is how sheltered so many are on what is and what isn't healthy," wrote Chontel, who's been keeping up with her high-intensity workouts throughout her 39-week pregnancy, documenting her continuing fitness journey on Instagram. She's even managed to maintain the definition in her abs:

BUMP UPDATE "29 weeks" only 77 days to go... What have we become? When did it become ok to find joy in the hopes that one will lose who they were because they are now pregnant? It's not rocket science people... it's just pregnancy. Its something us female were designed to do. It's not "oh I'm pregnant let me accept that I must now sit down, switch off me & go get big an FAT. Where the heck is this coming from lol? It blows my mind HOW many people have told me that "this person" & "that person" are talking literally waiting, sitting on the edge of their seats excited to see me fall, get fat, lose all of my hard work, realise I can't keep working, won't be able to continue training, my business will flop because I won't be able to keep up both roles & mostly flip out emotionally because I'm not longer ripped. Do women actually think that pregnancy will ruin who they are? I'm so ok achieving some stretch marks, increasing my hips, having to take a break from work, learning something completely foreign to me, giving my vagina a bloody challenge lol, my body changing, my training decreasing & being challenged to master this little man arriving in just 77 days. I fell pregnant on purpose 😂 I couldn't care less how my body is effected, I respect my body, I'm disciplined, I look after my health and it was MOST CERTAINLY not to be a silly size 0, it was so when I fall pregnant, I fall at my absolute healthiest to grow the most healthiest little person possible & I'm pretty dam proud of my efforts! I will continue to share my story so it hopefully will shed some light on the journey of my active pregnancy an not frighten women to conceive, because they are worried about all those ridiculous views. I can't share anything too exciting from the week just gone because it all still feels pretty much the same. Little D is kicking my right top ab & holy cow it's painful, it's like a constant burning tearing sensation 😤 My husband is determined for me to stay standing throughout labour & deliver on all fours 😂 then he asks my OB an Dr McBeth hands down agrees with him. So apparently I'm attempting that 👍🏽 CLICK MY LINK IN MY BIO TO READ ON....

31 WEEK "Bump Update" 63 days to go... 🍼 My Nursery has started to come together 👍🏽 awaiting the cot & once that is in I will start looking for a ottoman, perhaps a circle rug, a oversized floor stuffed toy & something to hang on the walls. My Bubs Nest order, pram, HIIT bassinet, HIIT bath/change table & a few bits an pieces should arrive end of the month. After my last bump post about my baby shower, I had the team from @rainforestgardens contact me to host my shower. It's unreal how flexible they are, they can cater for up to 150 people & they have Alpacas 😂😂😂 that had me sold hehehe.... So we're back on! I'm having my shower on the 21st next month 😀 25 days away. How am I feeling? Energy is amazing, still not tired, love my training, appetite hasn't changed & no cravings, I still haven't woken up to pee during the night "winning"!!! BUT my top right ab is STILL burning 🔥 & now the right side of my back is killing me. It's fine in the mornings but as soon as I start my first big meal it's like he shifts to make room for my full stomach and BOOM the pain is on like donkey kong 😩 I can't really complain it's all I've had to suffer with and NOTHING can kill my vibe, because I love being pregnant!!! I have a bit of pressure "down there" & when I go to the toilet (sorry readers) I honestly feel like I could push him out lol (I know I can't possibly but that's just the best way to describe it). We get to see Little D today at 1pm so stay tuned onto my snap chat (chontelduncan) as my husband likes to film Little D's Ultrasounds. He's apparently 42cms long & the weight of a Coconut 😳 My vent for the week is people asking "is that safe for the baby?" 😒 Seriously? "Yeah I'm practicing an unsafe pregnancy for shits an giggles..." TO CONTINUE READING CLICK ON MY LINK IN MY BIO 📲

BUMP UPDATE 🍼 36 weeks... only 28 days to go 🙊 Boy do I feel pregnant, this tummy is massive, heavy, makes sitting up so difficult, rolling over in bed a funny task, trying my sneakers hard work & my back has its moments where it throbs. It's exciting because these are all NEW signs & signs that mean Little D is almost here. I'm interested to know where my waters will break hahaha... (If they do) Imagine if they broke this weekend at the hens in the valley or next weekend at my challenge break up party in the city OR while training in front of my clients hehehe... would be hilarious!!!! As of next week I have been instructed to commence some useful techniques to help bring on labour; 1) have sex daily 🙉 most hilarious convo 2) stimulate my nipples every time I use the bathroom 🙊 3) increase my raspberry leaf tablets to 6 per day 💊 Predictions are that I'll labour around 4hrs & push for 30mins... fingers crossed these predictions are correct, that just sounds like a dream come true!!! But we will just have to wait & see... Drugs... I plan to go gas if needed, defiantly no pethidine & epidural would be considered as an absolute last resort. I want to use the shower, exercise ball, stand as much as possible & play my music to help calm any nerves of needed. I've been doing collaborative care, which is private for all of my appointments & public for delivery, then private for all post natal appointments. The public system can (if I have a completely normal delivery) send me home within 6hrs of birth 😳 isn't that crazy to think... I could labour for 4hrs, rest for 6hrs and be at home all within 10hrs of my first active labour contraction. Watched USA "one born every min", made my husband & I get so excited. I'm defiantly going to ask to pull Little D out like Kortney Kardashian did lol & I hope to god I don't scream hahaha... I've officially gained... FWIW, most experts agree it's not just safe to continue working out when you're pregnant—it's healthy. So here's to hoping Chontel's bullies tone it down ASAP, because no one needs that kind of stress.
