In case you've been avoiding the internet entirely over the past year or so, there's a new Ghostbusters reboot coming to theaters this summer, featuring an all-female central cast. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are going to kick paranormal ass, and Chris Hemsworth is playing the ditsy secretary.
So of course this seems awesome, until the sexists start showing up. The first trailer became the most-disliked movie trailer in YouTube history, and it's hard not to read a little sexism into that. Director Paul Feig, who also brought us movies like Bridesmaids, said he's been seeing "some of the most vile, misogynistic shit I've ever seen in my life" around the movie. (It's Ghostbusters, people, not world peace. Stop taking this so seriously.)
But at least according to reactions on Twitter and Facebook so far, this one seems to be going over a little better with fans of the original movies. This trailer features a lot more action, brings back Slimer, and seems to hint that Hemsworth becomes the major villain after he's possessed by a ghost. Above all, the movie looks fun, and isn't that what we're all here for in the end? Well, that and ectoplasm humor.
