Listen to Karen O's New Lovelorn Ballad 'Rapt'

Because we've all been there...

Yeah Yeah Yeah's lead singer Karen O has always been one of our favorite kick-ass frontwomen, and if her Grammy-nominated single The Moon Song for Her (2013) or her work on the magical Where the Wild Things Are (2009) soundtrack, she's just as much of a standout on her own. We've been anticipating her first solo record for years and she's finally unveiled the first single off of her debut album, Crush Songs, which documents the fickle state of her love life during her late twenties nearly a decade ago.

"When I was 27, I crushed a lot," explained, now 36-years-old. "I wasn't sure I'd ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours."

The song, entitled "Rapt," is a raw, downcast, and exquisite. From the ultra-personal lyrics,"love's a f**king bitch," to the tug-at-your-heartstrings acoustic guitar, it's a ballad that's haunting, yet eerily-soothing to anyone whose found themselves lovelorn. O is now married to filmmaker Barney Clay, who directed the track's music video.

Crush Songs drops on September 9th on Julian Casablancas' label Cult Records. It will be introduced as a limited-edition vinyl featuring O's handwritten lyrics and personal drawings, then avaliable digitally. You can preorder the LP here.
