Please don't even think about organizing another event.

Remember the Fyre Festival? It was advertised as a music festival for the elite on the island of Great Exuma in the Bahamas, but it turned into a complete disaster without basic necessities like adequate food and water. Billy McFarland, the 25-year-old founder behind this infamous event, was arrested on Friday in New York and charged with wire fraud.

Joon H. Kim, the acting US attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement (opens in new tab):

McFarland faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, but he could receive a lesser sentence, the New York Times reported (opens in new tab).

McFarland and Ja Rule, a co-founder of the festival, were already facing over a dozen lawsuits. Ja Rule's lawyer told the Times that he had not been arrested.

Hopefully this means the founders won't even attempt a re-do event for next year (opens in new tab).
