Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed this afternoon that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer, announcing the news on Twitter.
"1 in 8 women get breast cancer," she wrote. "Today, I'm the one."
The actress, who recently made award-show history when she took home her sixth consecutive Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on Veep, expressed gratitude toward her family and friends for their support and to her union, which is responsible for her "fantastic" health insurance. But she acknowledged that "not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality."
This week, the GOP-led Senate once again failed to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, which mandates that every American must have health insurance and expanded the number of Americans who are entitled to subsidies to lessen the cost of their care.
