WARNING: This story contains a potential spoiler for Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 7.
Game of Thrones' Season 7 finale episode is reportedly titled "The Dragon and the Wolf," according to GoT blog Watchers on the Wall. HBO hasn't officially confirmed the name yet, but the site credits the title reveal to SkyAtlantic, the network that airs GoT in the UK. If that's true, it could mean something big for Jon Snow.
At first read, the title may seem to allude to Daenerys Targaryen (the dragon) and Jon Snow (the wolf, due to his Stark blood), especially considering the pair's budding "romance" this season. It might even reference just Jon alone, since his almost-positive Targaryen-Stark lineage makes him both dragon and wolf.
But WotW suggests it could actually be about his parents, Rhaegar Targaryen (dragon) and Lyanna Stark (wolf). Hence, the Season 7 finale may finally confirm Jon's true parentage.
We've seen this format on GoT before. The Season 6 finale contained that major bombshell flashback to Jon's birth and revealed Lyanna Stark is his real mom, following a season's worth of build-up. It's possible showrunners are saving another big reveal for the final episode of Season 7.
The only question here is, how will it happen? Will it be another flashback, courtesy of Bran? Would the scene of choice be Rhaegar and Lyanna's wedding night? We did finally learn this season (through Gilly, bless her heart) that Rhaegar and Lyanna might've actually gotten married, legitimizing both their union and Jon's Targaryen claim to the Iron Throne. It can't be that Gilly's shocking discovery was for nothing. Plus, there are rumors that GoT already cast an actor to play Rhaegar. He has to make an appearance, right?
GoT fans are already freaking out about the possible reveal:
There's been a lot of talk about Rhaegar Targaryen this season. This Sunday, we might finally find out why. Watch the Season 7 finale preview below.
