I’m Embracing Cold Weather With These Cozy-Chic Coat Trends
From glossy leather trenches to sumptuous shearling outerwear.

What a beautiful time of the year it is, when temperatures turn crisp and you can feel the change of seasons. As much as I love summer's sun-drenched days, autumn invites an exciting opportunity to refresh my closet with cold-weather staples. Alongside knit sweaters, denim bottoms, and sturdy boots, I’m embracing a range of coat trends that I can’t wait to wear in the coming months.
From sleek leather trenches to textured shearling outerwear, the most coveted layers of the season have inspired a new chapter in my style playbook—one defined by a quiet sense of power. Yes, these coats certainly make a statement, but they’re also streamlined enough to fit into my minimalist capsule wardrobe. Ahead, discover how I’m styling them throughout fall and winter.
The Leather Trench Coat
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—when it comes to building a wardrobe, versatility is everything. Before buying something new, I always ask myself, “How many ways can I wear this piece?”
With Nour Hammour’s Kasha coat, the answer to this question is “many ways.” What I love most about this coat is its floor-sweeping hemline (I’ve been experimenting with playful proportions lately).
Worn open with vintage denim, this piece feels effortlessly cool. On the other hand, when it’s tied at the waist with a turtleneck and tall boots, it takes on a more refined feel. A coat that can shift between undone and polished is always a win.
The Shearling Coat
I’m thrilled to say that shearling coats are making a comeback. By Malene Birger’s version features a collarless silhouette, which invites endless styling possibilities (you can team it with a collared shirt or a lightweight jacket for depth and texture).
Here, I paired this piece with black flared trousers, embracing my love for a neutral color combination. I finished things off with Manu Atelier’s Le Cambon carryall, which isn’t your traditional East-West bag. This one reads more like a soft tote, perfectly balancing the weight of shearling and suede for an elevated contrast.
Above all, this coat earns its place in my wardrobe because it’s versatile. Lined with supple leather, it’s reversible and can seamlessly shift between styles. This piece is also properly insulated, making it an ideal choice for battling chilly temperatures. I’ve worn it during my past few trips to Paris, and it has easily become one of my favorite cold-weather travel coats.
The Pony Hair Coat
CO’s chocolate brown pony hair coat might just be the gem of the season. It’s a true standout, not only for its rich texture, but also for its thoughtful design details.
Spoiler alert: it comes with detachable collars, meaning you can wear it structured and strong, or collarless for a softer silhouette.
The paneled pony hair catches the light in the most mesmerizing way, revealing a subtle sheen that feels almost cinematic. I leaned into light play by pairing it with a silk button-down, reminiscent of Tom Ford’s Gucci era, and satin trousers from J.Crew that perfectly echo the same deep chocolate tone.
To complete the look, I layered in another shade of brown with Verafied’s Éclair bag, a showpiece of its own. The interchangeable handles can be worn with a minimal gap or removed entirely to transform it into a clutch.
The Cropped Leather Jacket
A few months ago, during a wardrobe review, I realized I didn’t own a single cropped jacket—which, for all intents and purposes, counts as a coat trend in my book. Shorter silhouettes add freshness to any outfit, and after all, playing with length is the name of the game this season.
So, I bought a mud-brown leather jacket from Arma and paired it with a radiant sweater, as I was inspired by Celine's signature shade of red. (I thought my red phase had passed, but here I am, wearing the fiery hue once again.)
For finishing touches, I slipped into beautifully tailored pinstripe trousers from Another Tomorrow and square-toe booties by 3.1 Phillip Lim, creating a balance between sharp and subtle.
This fall and winter, I encourage you to experiment with these coat trends for yourself. As you try these styles, remember to review, refine, and repeat! And if you love what you see—that’s your cue that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
