4 Low-Key Celebrity Outfits I’m Always Copying
Pin these easy-to-style looks to your mood board.

Hi, friends! I’m Halie, Marie Claire’s senior fashion news editor, resident literature nerd, and one-woman billboard for Dôen dresses. I’m tapping in while Nikki is enjoying a much-deserved break.
I cover a lot in my role here at MC, from the runways in cities like Copenhagen and Milan to the latest lightning-rod luxury items bubbling up online. (Who here bought The Row’s $690 status sandals? I’d love to talk.) Every day that ends in -y, I also track celebrity street style for outfit tips and hero pieces that are actually worth wearing. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been drawn toward celebs whose outfits do two things exceptionally well: balance the tricky transitional period between summer and fall; and nicely juxtapose textures, shapes, and general vibes. (Translation: They aren’t a runway copy-and-paste or a TikTok-core.) So with my turn at the Self Checkout mic, I’m breaking down four outfit templates courtesy of my favorite A-listers to wear now and style up for fall.
RIHANNA’S SLOUCHY SUIT AND BALLET SNEAKERS:
Count me among the legions of women who find Rihanna’s maternity style very inspiring, even though I’m not pregnant. Recently, a look she wore on a Los Angeles shopping spree read to me like an ideal August work outfit: a just-oversize-enough pinstripe blazer and cargo pants, paired with ballet sneakers and a statement bag. Comfortable proportions; shoes that add some laid-back contrast; layers that peel on and off to contend with late-summer AC: Rihanna doesn’t have to release another album if she keeps giving me outfit templates like this. (But I would still love to hear R9…)
JENNIFER LAWRENCE’S GRAPHIC TEE AND LACE-TRIMMED SKIRT:
I love keeping tabs on Jennifer Lawrence because she’s the rare celebrity who really wears her clothes. She’s often photographed in the same pieces several times in a season (if not in the same week). I’ve clocked her in a version of the following outfit—a big vintage T-shirt juxtaposing a lace-trimmed skirt and dainty sandals—at least three times this summer. I’ve followed the same format with a pair of oversize lace-lined shorts and a rotating roster of concert tees. When it starts to get chillier, I’ll keep the skirt but swap in a crewneck sweater and a knee-high riding boot.
ZOË KRAVITZ’S PASTEL DRESS AND BALLET FLATS:
Zoë Kravitz’s press tour outfits for Caught Stealing have been the highlight of my week. Danielle Goldberg, her stylist, has a magic touch that makes even the more simple pieces for pre-red-carpet photocalls feel elevated. My favorite example? The way she paired a boho-leaning midi dress dotted with tiny flowers with sleek black accessories. (Kravitz’s go-to crescent bag she carried before the event has a four-figure price tag, but I found a worthy replacement for less.) I would just add a barn jacket or a sweater over my shoulders for some extra fall mileage.
HAILEY BIEBER’S ‘90S JEANS AND TINY KITTEN HEELS:
I know, I know, a famous person wearing jeans, a crop top, and a kitten heel doesn’t seem all that highlight-worthy. But let me draw your attention to Hailey Bieber’s latest denim: an under-$100 men’s pair from Gap. Shopping in the men’s section is also one of my favorite ways to harness the power of a perfectly baggy jean, which I’ll similarly match to a kitten heel, a sleek black bag, and an understated top—plus a longline trench coat (another Bieber staple) when it’s colder.
