SmA
"The Nations First and Only All Sports Experience". The Sportsmuseum of America (SmA) opened May 7th, 2008 and it's a wonderful place to visit. It's a celebration of sports including the heroes, the teams, the fans and the triumphs. The greatest legends and stars of today. Over 50 different sports are featured at the museum. The SmA is our nation's first and only museum to celebrate all of the sports Americans love under one roof.
The Sportsmuseum of America is a 45,000 square foot space which includes 28,000 sq feet of exhibition space, 4,000 sq feet of retail space and 8,000 sq feet of special event space. Not too small huh? Phase two is to include 25,000 more square footage.
Not only is the museum a great place to visit it also supports multiple charities and non-profit organizations including the Pat LaFontaine Companions in Courage Charity as well as the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
There are over 800 artifacts, 1,100 photos and 20 original films to preview within the 19 galleries. They even have two dozen or so interactive exhibits so visitors can feel closer to the sports they love to watch. You can even check out the which is now housed at the museum.
Luckily the museum is also in partnership with the Billie Jean King International Women's Sports Center which will include the first and only hall of fame dedicated to athletes and pioneers in women's sports. It too will offer interactive exhibits and educational pieces highlighting female accomplishments in sports.
SmA is located just steps from NYC's famous "Charging Bull" statue and is basically across the street from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferries. Also just around the corner from Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. So you can check out some other NYC sight seeing hot spots on your way.
If you seem unmotivated remember watching sports, reading about sports and now visiting a museum about sports is a great way to get inspired to get going on your exercise adventure!
See you in New York.
