Obama Launches New Non-Profit, Organizing for Action

President Obama has already kicked his second term into high gear with Friday's announcement of a new advocacy organization, Organizing for Action.

This weekend's inaugural festivities have given us such a healthy dose of the Obamas that we honestly dreamt about Michelle's ruby Jason Wu gown last night. But fashion aside, President Obama has already kicked his second term into high gear with Friday's announcement of a new advocacy organization.

According to former campaign manager Jim Messina, Organizing for Action will serve as a vehicle in which Obama's supporters will fight for his policy agenda at the grassroots level. The organization intends to re-energize citizens in support of his legislation in areas ranging from gun control, climate change, and women's rights. The goal of Organizing for Action is to imitate the energy and passion seen from citizens during the campaign, but now in an issue-specific, long-term format.

"We'll work on the key battles of our generation, train the next generation of grassroots organizers and leaders, and organize around local issues in our own communities," Messina said. "We'll continue to support the President in creating jobs and growing the economy from the middle out."
