Trend 1: The Headband
Whether worn with preppy braids sweatband-style at Lacoste and Charlotte Ronson or as wide '60s strips at Hermès, headbands (especially in bright white) gave a sporty feel to spring runways. Hairstylist Orlando Pita, who used clear plastic headbands at Michael Kors, suggests keeping hair "blunt at the ends and sleek with lots of shine."

Trend 2: A Coral Sea of Color
There's a fresh take on the color coral every spring, and according to the faces at Diane von Furstenberg, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and DKNY, this season's shade looks more peachy than pink. Paired with sea-green shadow, a sheer wash of warm coral on lids, lips, and cheeks gives skin a glow without looking overtly tan. At Derek Lam, makeup artist Tom Pecheux lined eyes with the emerald-green shade from Nars' Misfit Duo "to give the eyes a vintage, tribal vibe."

MC Recommends: L'Oréal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Teal, $12; CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in Citrus Flair, $7.49; Lancôme Pop 'N Cheeks in Coral Flirt, $29; Almay Intense i-Color Mascara in Black Emerald, $7.49; Body Shop Shimmer Cubes Palette 19, $22.

Trend 3: The Braidy Bunch
Typically an adolescent answer to taming tresses, braids are making a grown-up comeback in bohemian side styles and even red-carpet-ready updos (at Oscar de la Renta). "Braids can be too sweet, so I teased the hair and messed it up in places to update the look and create more edge. The more I messed it up, the better," says hairstylist Guido Palau, who prepped hair backstage at Alexander Wang with Redken Thickening Lotion for more texture.

MC Recommends: Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Firm Finishing Spray, $14.95; TRESemmé Simply No Frizz Spray Gel, $4.49.

Trend 4: Pink Lips in Bloom
From sweet petal pouts at Moschino Cheap & Chic to icy rosettes at Zac Posen, a full spectrum of pink lips stormed the runways. To match the bold colors at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Shiseido makeup pro Dick Page painted mouths fuchsia, leaving skin clean without a trace of concealer or blush. "The collection is blindingly bright, so I wanted punky lips. The bare face works because the skin still looks luminous — the models are so young." Translation: Use concealer, but sparingly.

MC Recommends: Smashbox Lip Shine in Berry Hot, $19; MAC Lipstick in Pink Burst, $14; Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Seductive Rose, $27; YSL Rouge Pur in Tropical Pink, $30.

Trend 5: Up-and-Coming Dos
Updos were everywhere, but the most memorable styles were adorned with shimmering accents, from the nature-inspired branches at Chanel to the rococo gem-encrusted barrettes at Dolce & Gabbana. Backstage at Carolina Herrera, hairstylist Orlando Pita revealed that "Carolina wanted the hair up. She made these beaded headpieces to show through the strands. We matched the beads to the hair color — silver or gold for the blondes, and bronze or black for the brunettes."

MC Recommends: Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Lifting Hairspray, $20; Aveeno Nourish + Style Volumizing Foam, $7.49; Goody metallic beaded headbands, $6.99 each.
