It seems like it's been a hundred years since Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them debuted, but that's probably just the effects of 2017. Finally, though, there's some Fantastic Beasts sequel news. On Thursday, Warner Bros. announced that the new movie will be called Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and it'll be out November 16, 2018.
The studio also shared the first photo of the cast in character, including Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore. Other new characters featured in the picture are Leta Lestrange (played by Zoë Kravitz), Newt's older brother Theseus Scamander (played by Callum Turner), and an unnamed woman played by Claudia Kim. According to Pottermore, this woman is a Maledictus, described as "someone who suffers from a 'blood curse' that turns them into a beast."
Very little is known about the movie's actual plot, but according to Warner Bros., it will pick up with Grindelwald having escaped custody. While he attempts to drum up support for his cause, Albus Dumbledore will be working on a plan to stop him with the help of Newt Scamander. Given that there are three more of these movies coming after this one, don't get your hopes up that they'll succeed. At least that means you'll get plenty more time with Jude's truly beautiful beard!
