Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds can be downright sneaky. The famous couple pulled off the feat of keeping Lively's third pregnancy out of the news for months, then were able to keep the birth of their baby secret for the last two months. It's October, and Lively welcomed her and Reynolds' third child in the summer.
People, Us Weekly, and E! all independently confirmed the birth last week after Reynolds and Lively shared a photo of themselves out on a date night. No outlet has revealed the baby's name, gender, or exact birth date. Lively and Reynolds' reps haven't made any official statement about the baby being born either.
So how did they do it? Us Weekly got a little intel from a source about the couple's process and why they've chosen to keep their family life private. Lively avoided being photographed for months (she was last seen out, visibly pregnant with Reynolds, in June), and she remained off social media for most of the year. She has not shared any new photos of herself since the premiere of Reynolds' film Detective Pikachu in May, where she revealed her pregnancy.
The reason behind this is to protect their kids, daughters James and Inez along with baby #3: "They do everything they can to make sure the kids have a normal upbringing," a source told Us. The couple lives quietly in Westchester, New York (just outside of New York City), and "Blake has a really great support system there," the source said. Reynolds did take eight days off filming a project to be with Lively and their newborn, Us' source said, but no one from set leaked the news of his break when it happened.
Lively told Marie Claire in 2016 that preserving her children's privacy is of the utmost importance. "My family: That's the thing that I feel most protective of and the thing that I feel is the most exposed when I feel exploited," she said.
Of her decision to keep her children out of the paparazzi's lens as much as possible, she explained, "I'd rather not have to deal with it at all, but we knew the lifestyle we were getting into, and while it's hard…it's another thing when it's our child. She [James] didn't have the opportunity to make a decision about what she wants."
She and Reynolds are committed to raising their kids normally. "We want our kids to have the same normal life that we had," she said. "We don't ever want to rob them of what we had, because we'd feel really selfish."
