Jessica Alba's Startup Is Now Worth Almost $1 Billion

Being a movie star just wasn't enough for Jessica Alba. The actress, who stars in the recent Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For, just so happens to also be an entrepreneur, with a company worth $1 billion.

Two years ago, Alba started The Honest Co. with a goal of selling non-toxic diapers and other baby products. But the company has skyrocketed ever since, and now sells non-toxic cleaning products, vitamins, and beauty products. The company makes most of its money selling monthly subscription "bundles" of baby, health, or cleaning products, and makes a point to donate part of every purchase to families in need.

And her business model is working. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, The Honest Co. is planning to go public and has recently raised $70 million, putting its valuation at just under $1 billion. The company, which employs 275 people, might even expand their business to China.

Alba's celeb status helped the business take off in the first place. "She is an international star. We're starting to see a lot of demand from her fans around the world," early investor Jeremy Lieu told the Wall Street Journal. And if she ever decides to take a break from Hollywood stardom, she'll have a booming business to fall back on.
