Is there anything more awkward than a bad first date? The stress of not knowing anything about the person, the forced conversation, and realizing that they totally used an old photograph in their dating profile?

Turns out, even A-list celebrities hate dating. In a cover story for Town & Country, Dakota Fanning explains what it's like getting back into the dating scene after breaking up with her boyfriend of two years, British model Jamie Strachan.

"The way I prefer to meet someone is through a friend," says the 22-year-old actress, who is currently enrolled at New York University and stars in the upcoming film American Pastoral. She says having someone vouch for the person hopefully means they're "most likely not a freak."

But friend approval and all, she says: "I find dates, in general, horrific. We have to sit there and ask these questions and pretend to eat a meal, and it just feels so stiff."

At least there's always Tinder...right?
