The rumors are true: Prince William and Prince Harry are playing Stormtroopers in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The royals will be joined by Tom Hardy and singer Gary Barlow for a joint, but clandestine, celebrity cameo, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
John Boyega, who stars in the epic film series as Finn, confirmed the news to THR. He said that seeing the princes and their fellow stars "wrapped in Stormtroopers costumes" made for a "strange contrast of a weird family." He added, "It's the best of both worlds for me."
Rumors first spread in August that the royal brothers would appear in the next installment of the Star Wars franchise. Boyega let spill that the princes filmed scenes when they visited the set last year.
During their tour of Pinewood Studios, located just outside of London, William and Harry met members of the cast, including Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, and Boyega. BB-8 and Chewbacca were present, too. The royals also got a hands-on with some of the props and set pieces, like the faux aircrafts and, of course, light sabers.
Apparently, Tom Hardy was lurking around set at the same time. Sources say the English actor, Gary Barlow, and the royal duo filmed the same scene together, supposedly acting as guards opposite Boyega's Finn. You just won't be able to tell when you're watching the movie—their faces will be covered. In The Force Awakens, Daniel Craig pulled off a similar secret cameo when he played a Stormtrooper in a scene with Ridley.
