Surprising absolutely nobody, Lin-Manuel Miranda's blockbuster musical Hamilton led the nominations for the 70th annual Tony Awards, which will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, June 12. James Corden, a Tony winner himself, will host the show, which will certainly be a Hamilton lovefest.
Hamilton took home 16 nominations, including Best Musical and acting nods for Miranda and his costars. That's a new record for a musical, beating The Producers and Billy Elliot, which each had 15 nominations. Other big contenders this year include the musicals Shuffle Along and She Loves Me, and the plays Long Day's Journey Into Night and Eclipsed. Tony-winning actor Brian Stokes Mitchell will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award, given to humanitarian members of the theater world.
