Did Joni Mitchell Kill Her Biopic Because of Taylor Swift?

'All you've got is a girl with high cheekbones.'

You may or may not recall that just a couple of years ago, a Joni Mitchell biopic was in the works—and, perhaps most memorably, that Taylor Swift was slated for the lead roll. Though the film (which was based on Sheila Weller's Girls Like Us) eventually fizzled out, we weren't given much explanation as to why—but in an interview with London's The Sunday Times a couple of days ago, Mitchell finally divulged the truth.

It turns out that the iconic singer didn't quite agree with this portrayal of her life story. "I squelched that!" she said. "I said to the producer, 'All you've got is a girl with high cheekbones'. It's just a lot of gossip, you don't have the great scenes." Which is totally fair, since probably no one is more aware of the great scenes of Joni Mitchell's life than Joni Mitchell. (And, we would only hope that a film documenting the life of such a legend would be nothing short of amazing.)

In the end, we're not completely convinced whether this zing was directed more so towards the casting or the screenwriting, but fortunately, Taylor knows a thing or two about shaking it off.
