Speaking to People in an interview published Monday, Crystal Hefner says she remains “heartbroken” days after her husband Hugh Hefner's death. “I haven’t been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences,” Crystal told the magazine. “I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief.”
Crystal also confirmed that her husband, who died at the age of 91 on September 27, was buried Saturday. “He is in a place he was always certain he wanted to spend eternity,” she said. As previously reported, Hugh purchased the crypt next to Marilyn Monroe—the first Playboy cover girl—at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles for $75,000 in 1992.
Calling her late husband an “American hero” and “pioneer,” Crystal told People their love was as real as it gets. “I felt how much he loved me,” she said. “I loved him so much. I am so grateful. He gave me life. He gave me direction. He taught me kindness. I will feel eternally grateful to have been by his side, holding his hand, and telling him how much I love him. He changed my life, he saved my life. He made me feel loved every single day. He was a beacon to the world, a force unlike anything else. There never has and never will be another Hugh M. Hefner.”
