In good news relevant to the many of us who are only roped into watching the annual football fest for the promise of 1) nachos and 2) the theatrics that are the half-time show, Beyoncé has today been confirmed to perform alongside Coldplay, the ertswhile headliners. (You can't really be the headliner at an event featuring Beyoncé unless you are Beyoncé, really.)
After weeks of hopeful but seemingly-baseless speculation, Entertainment Tonight reported her appearance as a cert this afternoon—she'd join the show, they explained, because she'd contributed vocals to a track from Coldplay's latest album A Head Full of Dreams. And then, just like that, Pepsi officials—and this is pretty legit because Pepsi is the event's sponsor—told The Associated Press shortly afterwards that yes, Queen Bey will be gracing the Super Bowl's main stage again. Everybody say yes please, thank you so very much, this is perfect.
Beyoncé's last turn at the big game came back in 2013, when Kelly and Michelle popped out of holes in the ground and it/everything was just fabulous. Maybe that can happen again, and then Coldplay can fall into the holes and it'll just be Destiny's Child doing their thing; look I love Viva La Vida as much as everyone else but we should take every possible reunion opportunity for the group as seriously as we can, OK?
