Angelina Jolie admitted she was "feeling butterflies" as she prepared to give her first lecture as a visiting professor (opens in new tab) at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The actress and special envoy to the UN High Commission for Refugees is speaking with students at the LSE's Centre for Women, Peace, and Security about her ongoing campaign to end sexual violence in war zones. She will also reflect on her own experience in areas of conflict, such as Syria, Iraq, Yemen, South Sudan, and Somalia.

"I'm a little nervous, feeling butterflies," Jolie told The Evening Standard (opens in new tab). "I hope I do well. This is very important to me."

Her unpaid role as visiting professor will include delivering guest lectures to students, taking part in workshops and public events, and undertaking research.

Jolie cofounded the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative with politician and life peer William Hague five years ago. In 2014, their London summit on sexual violence in areas of war garnered signatures from 150 government officials who backed a declaration against rape and sexual assault being used as a tool in conflict.

Jolie was today addressing students taking the prestigious university's one-term course on Women, Peace and Security. From September, students will be able to take an entire master's in the subject - the first program of its kind anywhere in the world.

Speaking at its launch previously, Jolie had announced: "I am very encouraged by the creation of this master's program."

"I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women's rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict."
