Gwen Stefani Thought She Was Going to Die After Her Divorce, Still Calls Blake Shelton Her "Coworker"

"Never in my wildest, craziest dreams would I ever have seen this coming."

Pharrell was right, of course: Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton's relationship *is* a miracle, mostly in that she had no idea it would ever happen.

Devastated by her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, who allegedly cheated on her with the family's nanny, Stefani threw herself into her work. "I'm going to die," she said of her feelings then in an interview with the New York Times. "I am dead, actually. How do I save myself? What am I going to do? How do I not go down like this?"

But when her "coworker" Blake Shelton found himself going through "literally the exact same thing," their friendship turned into more—five stages more, to be precise. (Those would be anger, sadness, flirtation, sexy, and madly in love, according to her songwriter Justin Tranter.)

The best part about the whole thing, though? This Is What the Truth Feels Like, which comes out March 18.
