3 Healthy(ish) Cocktails You Need to Try

Some fancy shmancy cocktails are loaded with sugar and other artificial flavorings. That doesn't mean you need to stick with boring vodka-sodas. Try one of these healthy(ish) homemade cocktails, made by Distilled NY for CosmoBody with fresh ingredients that beat the garbage found in most premade drink mixes.

The Perfect Old Fashioned

Don't skip the bitters because you don't know exactly what they are. FYI: They're basically super potent flavorings that heavily affect the aroma and taste in cocktail recipes.

What you'll need:

1 sugar cube

2 dashes Angostura bitters

1 dash oorange bitters

1 teaspoon soda water

2 ounces bourbon or rye

A few ice cubes

A twist of orange or lemon for garnish

How to make it: Combine the first four ingredients and muddle until the mixture forms a paste. Add booze, ice, and garnish. Drink.


This beer-based drink is the perfect solution to the cocktail-or-beer debate. You can have both!

What you'll need:

1 teaspoon strawberry simple syrup*

Juice of ½ lemon

1 teaspoon ginger syrup**

1 shot bourbon

1 dash orange bitters (Don't skip! Don't skip!)

1 light beer

A twist of lemon for garnish


How to make it: Combine all ingredients except beer. Top with beer and garnish.

*For strawberry simple syrup: In a blender, puree eight to 10 strawberries to yield about a half cup of strawberry puree. In a small stovetop pan over low heat, combine a half cup of water and a half cup of sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves. Cool, then combine a half cup of simple syrup and a half cup of strawberry puree. Strain.

**For ginger syrup: In a small stovetop pan over low heat, combine a half cup of sugar and a half cup of ginger juice until the sugar dissolves.

What you'll need:

1 ½ tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 ½ tablespoon agave syrup

1 shot Blanco Tequila

1 lime slice for garnish

How to make it:

In a drink shaker, combine all ingredients, shake, and strain over fresh ice in a salt-rimmed glass.
