Cleo Glyde, our star director, came across a 7-year old boy who was passionate about fashion then we thought, well why not give him a fashion shoot. Let's put in together with Isaac Mizrahi, someone who has a huge amount of experience with both high and low markets, and see what the two of them come up with.
How are ya?
This is Isaac.
It's a pleasure.
I started styling my mom and my friends when I was 2 years old.
Were you styling at 7?
I remember like somehow my mother and my sister is asking me what I thought when I was that age. Of course, the big joke was, you know, like I'd say, "Oh, you're not wearing that, are you, right?" and my mother would say, "Thank you very much, Mr. Designer. What did I do for 10, 15 years before you were born?"
I would love to be one of the best fashion designers ever.
I used to always kind of wanna restyle people. I don't know what it was that made me know the difference. It was basically my making it up on the spot. It was fun.
Geordy is one of those child fashion proteges. He just come from nowhere and he's got it instinctively.
She has to go to the office, okay? Those are your 4 challenges.
She may have to have like a little sweater over or something.
Okay. Alright. Sorry, I'm not gonna tell you--
You went through our fashion closet, which has all sorts of racks of different-- different clothes. Pulling things off the rack and putting them together on the floor as if this was something he'd been doing for the last 30 years. He's one of those old souls in a child's body and it was very clear that this is what he's meant to do.
Well, you know that Geordy, he's-- like what-- he styles his mother's friends for job interviews, dates.
Screams when his mother wears flats. Goes to Madison Avenue and says, "Mom, can we please go in? The window is not right. I've just got to tell this."
Oh, this is hysterical.
It's hysterical. We thought, let's put him together with Isaac Mizrahi, someone who has a huge amount of experience with both high and low markets.
I like my thing high-low.
High-low is just being a little smarter than everybody else.
Go with that dress 'coz it's still what, red rose.
That's really good. No kidding, it's really good, right? It's so wrong, it's right. That's the thing. How did you know, 'cause you're a genius, that's why.
They spoke the same language. They saw the same things, and it was just amazing watching a 7-year old boy dress a model and make it look fantastic.
I learned from Isaac today that you can't just say you wanna be a fashion designer. You have to work your way up to it.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you. Welcome.
Thank you so much for having me.
We thought it was so important to do a designer handbag competition because all women love bags and it's one of the things that we hear back from readers all the time. What's the new bag I should have? I want one, two, three, maybe four bags. The other thing is that we know there are a lot of really good, talented young designers out there.
We went out to fashion schools, regular people, other editors and asked them to sketch a handbag that they would like to carry. [unknown] who was this great girl. She designed this really beautiful yellow bag with a brown handle. We thought that it was functional and stylish. I've been designing bags for roughly 2-1/2, 3 years now. I describe my handbag style as I would say, classy, contemporary. I love to work with mainly leather. We partnered with glam.com because they have a huge number of women coming to their site and we saw that in terms of the volume of people we've got entering this competition. It was incredible. We have short list going up week after week. It was astonishing, and for my point of view, what is more fun than judging designs of great bags.
All of the bags that were sent in from the 8 finalists were really well done. They seemed like they could be sold in stores. Everybody put a lot of-- Lot of work into the bags and then to the sketches that they sent.
I immediately went and started telling everyone that I was in this national contest through a national magazine and I got everyone to, you know, vote for me. The bag was auctioned off on eBay, but I do wanna have the bag professionally made and-- and sold in stores maybe.
It felt like she designed it with a modern woman in mind. This was very much a bag you could take on the go, and I think she has a great eye. I think she-- it-- it would go with anything. It's a great style. The shape is great and we just really thought she did a good job.
We are shooting Bobby Brown, the celebrity makeup artist, and Cleo Glyde, our Style Director. Basically, the two women are hugely successful in what they do, but the one difference between them is the height.
