Selena Gomez on Why She Left Her Old Band "The Scene"
The group went on hiatus in 2012.
Selena Gomez has really come into her own as a musical artist, so you wouldn't be wrong to forget that she first burst onto the pop scene with, well, The Scene. First formed in 2008, Selena Gomez & The Scene released three studio albums before finally going on hiatus in 2012. ("Who Says" and "Love You Like a Love Song" are forever jams though.)
But lest you think the bandmates parted on a sour note, Selena shared that she still valued her stint as a frontwoman, even though the group eventually grew apart. As part of a Q&A session on Ask Anything Chat, Sally from Lexington wondered, "What happened to The Scene?"
Selena's attitude is basically a "smile because it happened" kind of situation:
"That to me was a very specific time in my life. I think if you're 14, 15, 16 and you're trying to sing about situations in life that you haven't experienced, I don't really know if that qualifies you as an artist, if I'm being honest with you.
It helped me to have people who were older around me that helped guide me, and inspired me and pushed me. And there was a moment when I felt like I could do it and I wanted to try it on my own."
Girl, me too. Watch the entire Q&A below:
