Sia's wig is so much more than a fashion accessory. It's a performance prop, a disguise, and—it turns out—an appeal for normalcy. The star almost always makes public appearances with her face partially obscured by a fringe, which serves a practical as well as stylistic purpose.

"Well it's just so that I can go to Target and buy a hose if I want to," the 39-year-old singer told Ellen. "Or if I find I'm very in need of a restroom, I can go in the side of the road. No one would be following me with a camera trying to get the shot."
