Bless the 19th century genius who first thought to temper bitter coffee with milk, sugar, and—you guessed it—booze. Fast forward to the invention of the creamy espresso martini in the '80s, the "It" cocktail of its day, and you'll see why modern mixologists are looking to cold brews and dessert fixings to enhance the classic, but dated, drink. Here, our favorite new takes on the espresso martini, from chocolate to citrus.
Satisfy your sweet tooth in drink form.
2 oz. Caramel-flavored Vodka
2 oz. Kahlua Liqueur
2 oz. Espresso
2 oz. Heavy Whipping Cream
Ice Cubes, for chilling
2 Tblsp. Coconut Sugar (or brown sugar)
In a small measuring glass, mix vodka, Kahlua, espresso, and cream until combined. Place in a shaker with ice cubes and shake until mixture is completely chilled. Discard ice cubes. Pour chilled espresso mixture into glasses and enjoy immediately!
Your standard espresso martini with a citrusy twist.
2 cups Freshly Brewed Espresso, chilled
2 cups Orange-Flavored Vodka (recommended: Stoli Ohrani)
1 cup Coffee Liqueur (recommended: Kahlua)
8 slices Orange Peel, twisted
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the espresso, vodka, and coffee liqueur. Shake for 30 seconds, or until foamy. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Optional: decorate with the orange peel. Serve at once.

Double Shot of Espresso or 1-2 Tbsp. of Instant Coffee, mixed w/ 2 oz. of water
2 oz. Premium Vodka
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
1/2 tsp. Vanilla extract
2 tsp. Raw Brown Sugar
In a cold metal bowl, use an electric mixer on low to turn the heavy cream into whipped cream. Mix in the sugar and vanilla mid-way through and continue until the mixture has stiff peaks. In a pitcher or shaker filled with ice, pour the espresso or coffee mixture over the ice, followed by the vodka. Stir or shake the coffee and vodka for at least 1 minute. Strain and pour into a martini glass. Dollop the whipped cream mixture on top. Optional: sprinkle brown sugar on top.

Double Shot of Espresso or 1-2 Tbsp. of Instant Coffee, mixed w/ 2 oz. water
1 1/2 oz. Premium Vodka
1 oz. Creme de Cacao Dark
1/4 Cup Half & Half
In a pitcher or shaker filled with ice, pour the espresso or coffee mixture over the ice, followed by the vodka, creme de cacao, and half & half. Stir or shake the coffee and vodka for at least 1 minute. Strain and pour into a martini glass. Optional: add large pieces of dark chocolate on the rim, or shave chocolate on top.

1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Coffee liqueur
Simple Syrup, to taste
