Love to hate her, hate to love her, Miley Cyrus is always on the money when it comes to choosing songs to cover. Her latest re-imagination is proof of just that.
Much like her recent takes on Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, her latest cover is a nod to the past. During her BANGERZ tour in Melbourne, Australia, Cyrus performed James Shelton's "Lilac Wine," a 1950's heartbreak ballad that's been taken on by the likes of Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, and most famously, Jeff Buckley. Given the singer's much-publicized split with Liam Hemsworth last year, the lyrics definitely resonate: "Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love / Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love."
Brace yourself for a wave of chills, and listen to the official live version below:
I’m the associate web editor at Marie Claire. I love to while away the hours at coffee shops, hunt for vintage clothes, and bask in the rough-and-tumble beauty of NYC. I firmly believe that solitude can be a luxury if you’ve got the right soundtrack—that being the Rolling Stones, of course.
