Update 5/21: After live Snapping her pregnancy scare, Kim Kardashian has an explanation for all you very confused folks wondering why the reality star would broadcast that. And she did it from the comfort of her bed with husband Kanye West cuddled up close.
And there you have it.
Original 5/20: The only thing worse than unexpectedly getting your period is unexpectedly not getting your period—and apparently, Kim Kardashian can relate. In a series of snaps late Thursday night, the reality star took her followers on a high-anxiety roller coaster ride as she navigated a recent pregnancy scare; and honestly, it was pretty nerve-racking.
In the first snap, she shows a selection of three different brands of pregnancy tests with the caption "panic attack." Because, like all women who have ever freaked out about a potential unplanned pregnancy are very aware, the brand totally doesn't matter as long as you can get answers.
"I'm legit in the airplane bathroom, going to take a pregnancy test, because I'm having a little bit of a scare," Kim said in a follow-up snap, waving one of the pregnancy tests around. "So, no big deal."
After a few excruciating minutes, Kim revealed her results—"not pregnant"—and you could seriously feel her relief through the app.
While Kim is probably one of the only people in the world who would live broadcast such a terrifying experience, I'm honestly pretty grateful to her for doing it. Knowing that even celebrities go through pregnancy scares might just make a huge difference for a lot of young women out there, and normalizing these experiences encourages healthy and open discussions around pregnancy, safe sex, family planning, and menstruation. I can think of few things as essential.
Side note: If you, too, are wondering why Kim took off her jeans and folded them neatly on the toilet seat, I've finally figured it out: It's because she's wearing a bodysuit and therefore had to strip down to take the pregnancy test. (You're welcome.)
