The "Best" Worst Excuses for Cheating, Ever

As you may have heard, Newt Gingrich, who is considering making a run for the presidency, indicated in a recent interview that his devotion to public service led him to marital infidelity.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate," Gingrich told the Christian Broadcast Network when the question of the affair he had during his last marriage came up.

That's one of the better excuses that has come along in quite some time, don't you think? It's a little less ridiculous (if only barely) than Senator John Edwards' explanation for why he fooled around with Rielle Hunter, his former campaign worker: "I started to believe that I was special," he said in a press release.

Slightly less reprehensible (slightly) than Jon Bon Jovi's 2006 assertion that "infidelity is part of the job" for famous rock stars.

What are the best bad excuses you guys have heard for infidelity?
