Viktor & Rolf to Design Opera Costumes

On the off chance that your Memorial Day plans include a getaway to Germany, make sure to book a hotel room in the town of Baden-Baden. On May 30 and June 1, at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as part of the 2009 Whitsun Festival, renowned director Robert Wilson will premiere his production of "Der Freischütz," or "The Freeshooter," a romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber. For fashion fans, Wilson has enlisted the theatrically-inclined Dutch design duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren (better known as Viktor & Rolf) to collaborate on the costumes, which will incorporate a healthy dose of Swarovski crystals. The opera, noted for its portrayal of supernatural themes and tunes linked by German folk music, first premiered in 1821.
