    Haute Couture Highlights

Despite major venue changes and the shuffling of designers, the whole haute couture experience is still as breathtaking and inspiring now as it was when I attended my first show back in 2000. This past July, Chanel Haute Couture's Karl Lagerfeld whisked us away to a postapocalyptic utopia inside the Grand Palais that was staged like a theater in ruins. (Think Cinema Paradiso meets The Walking Dead.) Valentino Haute Couture, at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, and Armani Privé, at the Palais de Chaillot, were more intimate. Taking in all the details, I realized that over the years, couture has become more about the micro than the macro. It's the ornate embellishments and the whimsical headpieces that catch your attention — and the "likes" on Instagram and retweets on Twitter. Here, a look at this season's highlights.
