An anonymous Academy member has decided to give the world a glimpse of her *very* harsh voting ballot. Fans of Meryl Streep and La La Land, you've been warned.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), the longtime female member began her critique with Best Picture, in which she immediately admits she "hated" Arrival. Why, you ask? Because it "sucked."
And while she found La La Land—an award show favorite—"tremendously enjoyable," she argued that it wasn't "that deep or memorable."
In contrast, she claims that though Jeff Bridges' gripping Western heist drama Hell or High Water won't win, it will be "remembered as a true American classic."
Of the Best Actress nominees, the member says she frankly "hated all of them," and thought "Meryl [Streep] played it like a clown." She also noted that Meryl's impassioned political speech (opens in new tab) at the Golden Globes "solidified her nomination."
She refers to Emma Stone as "the girl in La La Land," and adds that Stone will probably win even though she "doesn't think she was wonderful as people are saying."
In regards to the Supporting Actress list, she confesses to boycotting BAFTA winner and current favorite Viola Davis, because she thinks Davis should have been in the lead actress category.
"When the studios put these actresses who are clearly the lead in the supporting category—like they did with [The Danish Girl's] Alicia Vikander last year, even though she had more lines than the guy [Eddie Redmayne]—that really irks me," the voter explained. "Because it prevents real supporting actresses, like the waitress in Hell or High Water [Margaret Bowman], from getting nominated."
She then dismisses Nicole Kidman's role Lion as "not being all that different from everything else I've seen her do."
Ouch.
The Oscars takes place in Hollywood on Sunday, and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
