Ah, don't you just love a good love story? The romance, the fireworks, the irresistible chemistry. But maybe the best thing about good love stories is that each one is unique. Exhibit A: Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas' unconventional first meeting story. Believe it or not, Sophie wasn't exactly sure that Joe would be the guy for her. In fact, she thought Joe was going to be a massive dick. (Her words, not ours.)

Sophie remembered the details of her and Joe's first meeting in Elle's April 2020 issue. It all started when Sophie had a chance encounter with Joe's agent back in 2016, who saw a possible connection between the two of them. “I went to a meeting, and Joe’s agent was in the room. And he was like, ‘You remind me of one of my clients. I bet you two would really hit it off,’” Sophie said.

Later that year, Joe was touring in London with DNCE and decided to slide into Sophie's DMs. And because Joe Jonas is, well, Joe Jonas—level famous, Sophie assumed he was going to be super obnoxious and show up with a massive team to their dive bar hang out.

“I expected him to show up with security and everything,” Sophie recalled. “I thought, ‘He’s gonna be such a dick.’ I brought all my guy friends to come with me to meet him, because in the back of my mind I still worried that he could be a catfish—or I don’t know what.”

Turns out, Joe showed up to the bar with just one person in tow. And he actually wasn't a dick at all; he was apparently down to drink and have a good time with the Game of Thrones star and the rest of her friends. “He didn’t bring security," Sophie continued. "He brought a friend, and they drank just as hard as the rest of us. I remember the two of us spending only a couple of minutes on the dance floor, and then we just found a space far in the corner and we just talked. We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I was, like, not bored. It wasn’t contrived. It wasn’t small talk—it was just so easy. And soon we were, like, inseparable. I went on tour with him.”

Sure, Joe and Sophie ended up hitting it off, but turns out the actress actually hated Joe and the rest of the Jonas Brothers when she was much younger. “My friends and I were not Jonas Brothers fans,” she revealed to Elle. “There was this band in the UK called Busted. They had a hit called ‘Year 3000.’ It was amazing, and we were huge Busted fans. Then the Jonas Brothers covered the song and made it massive. And Busted broke up. We thought it was all the Jonas Brothers’ fault. So we hated them.”

[Pause for irony.]

Thankfully, that bit of Sophie's past didn't make much of an impact on her and Joe's future: They started dating shortly after their date, got engaged on their one-year anniversarymarried twice, and are now expecting their first child together. Guess true love exists!
